Can I swim here? Outside the bathing season

The bathing season runs from 1 June to 15 September. Outside it the water is not tested weekly and lifeguards are not on duty. The last sample, on 7 September 2026, was excellent. Live status on beaches.ie, which the EPA updates hourly in season.

Tragumna beach is a relatively gently sloping, sandy, south/south-west facing beach located at the north east of Tragumna Bay. There is a small island (Drishane Island) located in the bay which shelters the beach. The beach adjoins Lough Hyne Nature Reserve & Environs a Special Area of Conservation and a proposed Natural Heritage Area (SAC, pNHA 000097) and the Sheeps Head to Toe Head Special Protection Area (SPA 004156). The beach is used by limited numbers of small boats.

Excellent (2025): The highest standard: results over four years were consistently very clean.
