Web Scraping Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Winsome Planet is meant to be found. Search engines and AI assistants are welcome to crawl it, and our robots.txt currently places no restrictions on any crawler. This page explains how to crawl considerately and what you may do with what you collect.

Crawl considerately

  • Follow robots.txt and use the sitemap rather than guessing URLs.
  • Identify your crawler honestly in its user agent, with a way to contact you.
  • Keep to about one request per second, and back off if responses slow down or fail.
  • Stay out of signed-in areas and do not call our API routes, other than the connector below.

We may block traffic that ignores this or degrades the site for other people.

Want the data? Take it from the source

The trails, bathing waters, forests, heritage sites, place names and weather here come from Irish public bodies under open licences. Their own downloads are fresher and more complete than a copy of our pages — every source and licence is linked from Licensing & Data Sources. If you reuse that data, credit the original publisher as its licence requires.

For programs and AI assistants: the connector

Rather than scraping pages, software can query our open nature data through Winsome Ireland, a public MCP connector at winsomeplanet.com/api/mcp. It needs no account and returns each result with the credits its licence requires. See Use with Claude.

What stays ours

Our writing, photographs, page design and the outdoor ratings we compute are © Winsome Planet. Letting crawlers in so that people can find and cite us does not grant a licence to republish that material. You may quote short excerpts (under 50 words) with a link back; for anything more, ask us through the contact form. Our Terms of Service apply.

Personal data

Public pages hold no personal data about our users, and nothing here permits collecting any. Accounts, saved trips and messages are private.
