About us
An honest guide to Ireland's outdoors
Winsome Planet helps you find somewhere good to walk, swim, cycle or wander in Ireland — and tells you plainly where every piece of information comes from.
Made in IrelandWhat this is
Winsome Planet is an independent website, designed, written and coded from scratch in Ireland by one person. It is not a tourism board, a booking site or a government service.
It began as a personal travel blog. In 2026 it was rebuilt around one idea: Ireland's public bodies publish excellent open data about the outdoors, but it is scattered across many websites. Winsome Planet gathers it county by county, joins it up, and presents it so you can decide where to go this weekend.
What you will find here
- Ireland, county by countyWalking, cycling and paddling trails, beaches with their EPA bathing-water results, forests, heritage sites, parks and islands — for all 26 counties.
- An outdoor forecastMet Éireann's forecast and warnings, with our rating of each day for being outside.
- A free AI trip plannerDescribe a trip anywhere in the world and get a draft itinerary to refine and save. It needs a free account, and like any AI it can be wrong — check before you book.
- A journalTravel stories and photographs, in Ireland and further afield.
- Winsome Ireland for ClaudeA free connector that lets Claude answer Ireland outdoors questions from the same data.
Where the information comes from
The places and conditions on this site come from Irish public open data:
- Get Ireland Active – Sport Ireland
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Coillte
- National Monuments Service
- The Heritage Council
- Met Éireann
- Logainm
- Fáilte Ireland
- Tailte Éireann (OSi)
We clean it, join datasets by location and write our own pages around it. None of these organisations endorses Winsome Planet, and any mistake in how we present their data is ours. Every source and licence is on Licensing & Data Sources.
A bathing-water rating is not a safety certificate. It reports what the EPA found in its samples and when. Check for current alerts, local signs and lifeguard flags before you swim.

Spotted a mistake?
Trails get diverted and car parks close faster than datasets catch up. If something here is wrong, please tell us through the contact form — choose “Report an Issue” — and we will correct it as soon as we can confirm it. Common questions are answered in the FAQ.
