Can I swim here? Outside the bathing season

The bathing season runs from 1 June to 15 September. Outside it the water is not tested weekly and lifeguards are not on duty. The last sample, on 7 September 2026, was excellent. Live status on beaches.ie, which the EPA updates hourly in season.

It is a scenic quiet small sandy beach on the north eastern shore of the island of Inis Oirr in outer Galway Bay. It is popular among locals and is accessed by a local tar road. Locals often fish from the strand. It lies near the airstrip and light house. It is a 15 minute walk from the pier to the beach. Spectacular views of the Clare coastline and surrounding countryside
