Can I swim here? Outside the bathing season

The bathing season runs from 1 June to 15 September. Outside it the water is not tested weekly and lifeguards are not on duty. The last sample, on 7 September 2026, was excellent. Live status on beaches.ie, which the EPA updates hourly in season.

An Trá Mór is a small sheltered sandy beach facing east. It is located on the island of Garumna (Oileáin Garma) in south Conamara and lies between Carraveg and Greatman's bays in the wider Kilkieran Bay and islands protected area. The shoreline in general is rocky with small cove like beaches scattered along its length. It is approximately 7 km south of Beál an Daingin where the mainland is connected by the R374 road to Lettermore and Garumna islands. The beach is accessible via the L52323-0 local road.
