Can I swim here? Outside the bathing season
The bathing season runs from 1 June to 15 September. Outside it the water is not tested weekly and lifeguards are not on duty. The last sample, on 8 September 2026, was excellent. Live status on beaches.ie, which the EPA updates hourly in season.
Culdaff beach consists of a sandy beach with two rock outcrops at the south-east of the beach. The beach is contained to the west by sand dunes and to the north-west by the Culdaff River which has an extensive area of relatively unspoilt coastal habitats which support a range of plant and animal species. The catchment area is an idyllic location for bird watching and ecological activities. Activities include swimming, kayaking, boating, windsurfing, canoeing, surfing, shore angling and land-based activities such as walking, kite flying, rock climbing, etc.
Excellent (2025): The highest standard: results over four years were consistently very clean.
